Privacy policy

This policy describes how the Zippy Town Android app and the website at zippy.town handle information. The app is published under the package name digital.overvieweffect.zippytown. In this policy, “we” means the developer of Zippy Town.

What this app is

Zippy Town is an Android live wallpaper and a small in-app hunt. You can optionally buy Zippy Town Pro through Google Play. This version of the app does not show ads and does not include an advertising SDK.

The website is a public demo of the town. It does not run ads, does not sell Pro, and does not use the hunt.

Information that stays on your device

Wallpaper settings (traffic, cameras, night mode, and similar), hunt progress, and whether Pro is unlocked are stored on your device. Night mode that follows sunset uses your device timezone locally. We do not need, and the app does not request, a location permission.

If you take a hunt photo, it is saved on your device if you choose Download. If you choose Share, Android’s share sheet sends that still to an app you pick (for example Messages). We do not receive that photo on our servers.

Android Backup may copy app settings to your Google account if Backup is enabled on the device. That copy is handled by Google under Google’s terms.

Information that leaves the device

We do not run our own user accounts. Information that leaves the device is sent by Google Play (billing and the optional in-app review prompt) and, if you allow it, by PostHog for product analytics and crash reports, as described below. Data in transit to those services uses HTTPS/TLS.

PostHog (optional analytics)

If you tap Allow on the analytics prompt, or turn on “Share usage analytics” in Settings, the app sends anonymous product events to PostHog (EU cloud). That includes:

• App opens, screens you visit, and settings you change
• Hunt activity used to balance the game (vehicles found or unlocked, hunts in a row, whether you hit the hourly hunt limit)
• Whether the live wallpaper is set, and whether hunt notifications were shown or opened
• Photo, camera, and Pro-purchase actions (not the photo itself)
• Crash and error reports

Events are tied to a random install id, not your name or email. We do not send the contents of hunt photos. You can turn this off in Settings at any time; we then stop sending events. We cannot look those events up by Play account. They are deleted automatically within 90 days. PostHog’s policy is at posthog.com/privacy.

The live wallpaper process does not run this SDK. Wallpaper-related facts are stored on the device and only sent the next time you open the app, and only if analytics is allowed.

Ads

This release does not show ads, does not include Google AdMob, and does not use the Android advertising ID. If a later update adds ads, we will update this policy and the Google Play Data safety section before that version ships.

Google Play Billing (Pro)

Pro is a one-time in-app purchase handled by Google Play. We never see your payment card or Play payment details. The app asks Play whether you own Pro so it can unlock features and honour refunds. Google processes that purchase under Google Play’s terms.

Google Play In-app Review

The app may show Google’s in-app review prompt. Any rating you submit goes to Google Play, not to a server we operate.

Notifications

Optional hunt-tip notifications stay on the device. We do not send marketing push from our own servers.

The website

zippy.town is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Cloudflare may process technical logs (such as IP address) as part of serving the site. The demo itself does not set advertising cookies or ask you to create an account.

The website also uses Cloudflare Web Analytics so we can see which pages people visit and roughly how many. It records the page address, the referring page that sent you there, your approximate location (country level, worked out from your IP address rather than stored with the measurement), your browser, operating system and device type, and how quickly the page loaded.

It does not use cookies, does not store anything in your browser, and does not fingerprint your device or follow you to other sites. There is no identifier that would let us recognise you between visits, or connect a visit to a person, a Play account, or the app. Cloudflare processes this on our behalf and does not use it to build advertising profiles. This applies to the website only. The Android app does not include Cloudflare Web Analytics and does not contact Cloudflare. Analytics inside the app is the separate, opt-in PostHog measurement described above; turning that off in Settings has no bearing on the website, and the website does not use PostHog.

Children

Zippy Town is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

How long information is kept

On-device settings, hunt progress, and your analytics choice remain until you clear app data or uninstall. If you allow analytics, those events are anonymous (not tied to a Play account or email) and are deleted automatically within 90 days. Purchase records are kept by Google Play for as long as needed to provide the purchase.

Website analytics are held by Cloudflare as aggregate visit counts for the site, under Cloudflare’s own retention. Because nothing in them identifies a visitor, there is no per-person record to keep or remove.

Your choices

• Use the app without buying Pro.
• Turn off hunt notifications in Settings.
• Turn off usage analytics in Settings, or choose Not now on the prompt.
• Uninstall the app to remove local settings and hunt progress.
• Block static.cloudflareinsights.com in your browser or content blocker to stop the website’s analytics. Nothing on the site depends on it.

Requests about your information

See zippy.town/delete for how Zippy Town data is removed. In short: uninstall or clear app data for everything on the device. We have no user accounts, so we cannot look up a person or delete a specific install’s analytics on request. Anonymous analytics expire within 90 days. For Play purchase data, use Google’s account tools.

If we change how the app handles information, we will update this page and the date above. Material changes will also be reflected in the Google Play Data safety section.
